Electric vehicles are eco-friendly and undeniably cheaper to run than hybrid or internal combustion engine vehicles. However, the technical factors can seem complex when comparing one electric vehicle model with another. That’s why we’re focusing on the top three considerations when buying an electric vehicle (EV).

 1. Driving Range

The driving range of your EV is the distance you can drive with the energy stored in its fully-charged battery. The battery capacity is one determinant of the driving range your electric vehicle will deliver.

While the vehicle manufacturer may provide driving range figures, do your own research and check out reviews of what happens in real-life conditions. Usually, an electric car will give a driving range of over 100 km yet you should be aware that high-end options may deliver a driving range of over 400 km.

2. Battery Life

An electric vehicle requires little maintenance yet the battery can carry a hefty price tag. Ask about the expected lifespan of the battery in each electric vehicle model that interests you. Longer intervals for replacing the battery pack will make maintenance costs easier on your pocket.

3. Enjoyable Driving Experience

Ensure you take any electric vehicle for a thorough test drive before you buy it. An EV is designed to output its full power right away, so high-powered models might feel twitchy until you get used to regulating your acceleration accordingly.

The feel of the regenerative braking function can also vary from model to model. A high level of engine braking may feel pronounced and unnatural; therefore features are available in specific electric cars to give drivers a choice of applying more or less regenerative braking or even stopping the car without having to use the brake pedal.
